EMPOWERING FISHERFOLK.
SUSTAINING OCEANS.

Through Seaweed Cultivation in Visakhapatnam

OUR MISSION
Indira Samudra is dedicated to uplifting fisherfolk communities in Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh, India) through seaweed cultivation.
Through research, we identified that High Density Poly-Ethylene (HDPE) rafts, when integrated with fish cage culture, offers promising potential to build livelihoods that are more resilient, less extractive and ecologically sustainable.

WHAT WE DO
Seaweed cultivation empowers small-scale fisherfolk by creating new income streams while preserving their relationship with the ocean.

We are engaged in the production of a red seaweed species known as Kappaphycus alvarezii using High Density Polyethylene rafts. We aim to integrate this with fish cages by the end of 2025
